Dorothy A. Van Nort

Dorothy A. Van Nort, 80, of Carbondale died peacefully on Tuesday evening, July 9 at Regional Hospital of Scranton. She was the widow of Joseph J. Van Nort.

Born in Carbondale, she was the daughter of the late Adam and Rose Gorel Lutchko. Dorothy was educated in Fell Twp. schools and was a homemaker. Dorothy was an exceptionally dedicated and loving mother and grandmother, always putting the needs of her children and grandchildren above her own.

The family would like to thank the following people who have helped in her care, Dr. Ferdinand Manahan and staff, Dr. Matthew Haley, Michele Carson, Allied Services Rehab staff, Lackawanna County Area Agency on Aging and their many aides.

Dorothy is survived by her three sons, Dr. Joseph Van Nort and wife, Elizabeth, Clearwater Beach, Fla.; Dr. James Van Nort and wife, Dr. Abby Gordon, Louisville, Ky., Robert Van Nort, Carbondale; six grandchildren, Ashley, Joseph D., Caroline, Jasentha, Joshua and Warren Van Nort; and a great-grandson, Colton; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Adam Lutchko; and a sister, Dolores Lutchko.

The funeral will be Monday from the Joseph W. Scotchlas Funeral Home Inc., 621 Main St., Simpson with Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of the Rosary Parish, St. Rose of Lima Church, 6 N. Church St., Carbondale. Interment will be in Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Greenfield Twp. Family and friends may visit on Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m.
