Frank Curtis Obituary

Frank "Butch" Curtis, 83, of Carbondale, died Friday at Regional Hospital of Scranton. His wife of 58 years is Dorothy Mlinar Curtis.

Born in Waymart, son of the late Louis and Ruth Whiting Curtis, Butch served in the Pennsylvania National Guard for 25 years. During his lifetime, he worked as a butcher at Iyoob's Market, was maintenance supervisor at Westgate Summit Gardens and provided student transportation for NEIU-19. Butch was an original member of the Pioneer Days Committee and a Carbondale Housing Authority (CHA) board member. He enjoyed bowling, hunting, fishing, Sunday dinners with family, playing the lottery and family drive-bys where he checked on family members. Butch also enjoyed visiting his best friend, Emil Konzman, and spending time with his dog, Babe.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Sandy Obelkevich and husband, Paul, Carbondale; Sharon Brenzel, Carbondale; and Suann Call and husband, Tom, Hop Bottom; seven grandchildren, Ashley Smith and husband, Keith; Jacob Curtis; Heather Grecco and husband, Danny; Kristen Curtis; Frank Brenzel and wife, Molly; Jessica Obelkevich and fiancé, Craig Striefsky; and Thomas Call; five great-grandchildren, Kyler Bird, Callie Cicio, Eliana and Maysin Grecco, and Michael Smith; a sister, Jean; and a brother, Chuck.

He was preceded in death by a great-grandchild, Frank Joseph Brenzel II; and a sister, Sally Montonaro.

The viewing will be Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Lawrence A. Gabriel Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., 74 N. Main St., Carbondale. The Rev. Donald Perry, First United Methodist Church, Carbondale, will hold a memorial service at 6:30 p.m. while a military service will follow. Masks may be worn at discretion of those in attendance. Cremation will follow. Online condolences may be sent to the funeral home website.

So sad to hear Butch's passing. He was a really great guy. We grew up together. Peace be with you Butch and your family. I remember so many fun and funny things about him. It would take a book. Amen
