Gladys Yanochik Obituary

The sun rose on June 5, 1935 and set on March 9, 2023 with the passing of Gladys Marie Yanochik. She was preceded in death and now joins the love of her life, her beloved John, who died on April 8, 2022.

Born in Olyphant, she was the daughter of the late Jake and Anna Taylor Vadella. She attended Olyphant schools and prior to retirement was employed as a nurses aide at Mid-Valley Hospital and the Long Term Care Center. She was also employed in the housekeeping department for many years at Mercy Hospital, Scranton.

Gladys was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend who devoured one book after another and completed more crossword puzzles than anyone I know. Knitting was also a passion she learned from her mother and her doilies and afghans still grace homes today.

There was no end to her kindness, compassion and love, especially for her family. The only thing that compared to that was her devotion and love to the Blessed Mother and Medjugorje, saying the Rosary daily without fail. Every struggle, challenge, and heartbreak was met with a strength that defies measure and a dignity that is unmatched.

A lifelong member of SS. Cyril & Methodius Ukrainian Catholic Church, she always said faith will get you through the toughest times. To the perfect mother and a daughter's best friend, whatever strength I have and need, I received from you. You simply amazed me at times. It was an honor and a blessing to make sure you had everything you needed. You see, I was the lucky one. I was blessed to spend time with you, talk and laugh with you or just hear your voice. I will cherish and never forget those moments.

To all those who were not "family" but treated Mom like she was, you know who you are and I thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Surviving are daughter, Lori; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by brother, Eugene Vadella; sisters, Rosalie Namiak, Nellie Inshetski, Alice Swider; and infant, Violet.

You can breathe easy now Mom. Every heartache, every heartbreak is over and you are where you have always wanted to be; with Dad, dancing to Elvis. I will miss you both so very much but know that heaven has gained two of the most beautiful souls ever put on this earth.

Per Gladys' wishes, there will be no public calling hours and services will be private. Memorial contributions may be made in Gladys' memory to SS. Cyril & Methodius Ukrainian Catholic Church and Cemetery, 135 N. River St., Olyphant, PA 18447.

Arrangements are under the care of the Arthur A. Albini Funeral Home, 1003 Church St., Jessup.

I'm so sorry to hear of Gladys passing. I remember her as a kind person with a warm smile. My sister & I have fond childhood memories of visiting with her & John and Rosalie & George often at my Aunt Bella's & Uncle Lugs' house. I am a Vadella, my parents were Katie & Joe. May your memories of her comfort you at this time♡
