Helen Nasevich Obituary

Helen Nasevich, 97, a resident of Mount Cobb, Pa., died peacefully Saturday evening at the home of her son, surrounded by her family.

Born in Dickson City to Ukrainian parents Nicholas and Anna Stefano Gadomski on June 30, 1917, Helen was the fourth of eight children. She was educated in Dickson City High School and SS. Cyril & Methodius Ukrainian School, and excelled in all she endeavored to study. Her passion for reading and continual learning were surpassed only by her love of God and her Ukrainian Catholic heritage.

Married to John Nasevich in Philadelphia at the Ukrainian Catholic cathedral in 1940, they resided in Philadelphia until 1955 when they returned to Mount Cobb. Helen was a member of SS. Cyril & Methodius Ukrainian Catholic Church in Olyphant, and was a member of the choir for many years. She was fluent in the Ukrainian and English languages, and enjoyed the unique traditions of the Ukrainian culture.

The family would like to thank Dr. Thomas Majernick and his staff for the many years of care, to the nurses and aides of Commonwealth Home Health and Hospice, and all who offered kind words and prayers through these trying times. An especially heartfelt and sincere thanks to Helen's daughter-in-law, Anne Marie Nasevich, for her untiring and compassionate work as Helen's caregiver.

Surviving are a son, Joseph and wife, Anne Marie; two grandchildren, John Joseph and Anne Victoria; as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by five sisters, Katherine Daisak, Mary Pesarcik, Sophie Demchok, Olga Fabri and Caroline Dovin; and two brothers, Peter and John Gadomski.

The funeral will be Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. from the John J. Turko & Sons Funeral Home, 404 Susquehanna Ave., Olyphant, with Divine Liturgy at 10 in S.S. Cyril & Methodius Church, River Street, Olyphant, to be celebrated by the Rev. Nestor Iwasiw, pastor. Interment, parish cemetery, Peckville.

Friends may call this evening from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home. A Parastas service will be at 7. Memorial contributions may be made to SS. Cyril & Methodius Ukrainian Catholic Church, 135 River St., Olyphant, PA 18447.
