Ira A. Biesecker, 99, a resident of the Gino Merli Center, died Saturday at Regional Hospital. He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, the former Eloise Keesler, who died in 2004.

Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Ira A. Sr. and Jane Loomis Biesecker. He attended Scranton public schools and he was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Gouldsboro. In his earlier years, he drove the trolley and then buses for the Scranton Transit Co. Later, for 30 years, he was employed by Metropolitan Insurance Co. He was an Army Air Force veteran of World War II. In addition to his love of driving, he was an avid hunter and fisherman.

The family wishes to thank the staff and nurses of the Gino Merli Center for the compassion given to their dad.

Surviving are his children: a daughter, Tina Szczech and husband, Charles, Old Forge, and his son, Gregory Biesecker and wife, Dorothy, Port Orange, Fla.; three granddaughters, Amber Singletary and husband, Ryan, Heather Woloszyn and husband, David, and Kacie Szczech; five great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Thomas; and two sisters, Evelyn and Jean.

A funeral service will be conducted Wednesday at 11 a.m. by Pastor Richard Mowery in the August J. Haas Funeral Home Inc., 202 Pittston Ave. Interment, Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst. Friends may call Wednesday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
