Janice Calvert Obituary

Janice B. Calvert of Blakely died Monday morning at the hospice unit at the Regional Hospital of Scranton.

Born in Blakely, daughter of the late Mildred and Edgar Barrett, she was a past member of Blakely Primitive Methodist Church. She was a 1942 graduate of Dickson City High School. Upon graduation, she worked at the famous Cliff House in Ogunquit, Maine. She was very proud of her work as a "Rosie the Riveter" in Linden, N.J., during World War II. She also worked at Mackies in Olyphant, sold Avon for 45 years and retired from Kmart after 25 years. Janice will be remembered as a strong, selfless mother who persevered through many obstacles in her life.

The family would like to thank Dr. Lisa Thomas, and a special thank you to Valerie Wheeler, R.N., and the staff of the Regional Hospital Hospice during her final days.

Surviving are two sons, Jimmy and wife, Debra; and Oliver "Buff" and wife, JoAnn; four daughters, Carolyn Santoro; Janice Lynn Sewitsky and husband John; Kim Johnson and husband, Gary; and Allison Grant and husband, Richard; two granddaughters, Darcy Cichocki and Wendy Mikitish; 16 grandsons, Christopher and Damien Cichocki, Randy, Jason and Jonathan Sewitsky, Travis and Zachary Calvert, Chad and Bradley Hanicak, Darren and Gary Johnson, Cory and Cody Calvert, Tory, Trevor and Tyler Grant; 16 great-grandchildren; four brothers, Morley and wife, Marion; Richard and wife, June; Oliver, and Norm and wife, Joanie; a sister, Norma Kaminski; nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by a son-in-law, Benjamin Santoro; grandson, David Hanicak; great-granddaughter, Angel Sewitsky; brother, Edgar "Ted" Barrett; sister-in-law, Hazel Barrett; a niece, Brenda Barrett; and a nephew, Wesley Barrett.

The funeral will be Friday with services at 11 a.m. in the Frank T. Mazur Funeral Home Inc., 601 Dundaff St., Dickson City, by the Rev. Scott McGrady, Blakely Primitive Methodist Church. Interment, Union Cemetery, Peckville.
