Joan Gerrity Reed, 90, passed away on March 20, 2022, at Allied Terrace surrounded by her family. She was the widow of William J. Reed Sr., who passed away on Oct. 27, 2005. At the time of his passing, they had celebrated 51 years of marriage.
Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Anna and Henry Gerrity. A graduate of St. Patrick's High School, she then went on to earn her RN from St. Mary's School of Nursing in Scranton. Prior to retirement she worked in hospitals in the Pennsylvania and New Jersey area. Later in life Joan worked as a school nurse and as a private duty nurse.
She is survived by her children, William Jr. (Sharon), of Greenville, N.Y.; Paul (Petra), of Taylor, Pa.; and Theresa Terwilliger (Richard), of Winchester, Va.; grandchildren, Olivia Ross, Adrienne Williamson, Rebecca Reed, Cassidy Reed and Maeve Terwilliger; great-grandchildren, Daniel, Joshua, Nathan, Wes, Owen and Isla. She is also survived by a brother, Henry (Joan), Scranton; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by sister, Ann (Nancy) Kugler; and grandson, Daniel Schultz.
Joan's family would like to thank Dr. Martin Moran, the staff of Allied Terrace and Allied Hospice for their loving care.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 10 a.m. in the Immaculate Heart of Mary Chapel, 1605 Oram St., Scranton. Friends and family may pay their respects Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. until time of Mass in the church. Interment will be held privately at the convenience of the family in Cathedral Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in her memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or at www.stjude.org.
