Joanne Swartz, 91, a lifelong resident of Carbondale, died Monday at the Carbondale Nursing Center after an illness. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ezra R. Swartz, on Aug. 23, 2001.
Born Nov. 20, 1929, in Carbondale, daughter of the late Murvington and Viola Cesario Ort, Joanne was a graduate of the Benjamin Franklin High School, Carbondale, and had been employed by the Gentex Corp. in Simpson, her entire working career. She had been a member of the First United Methodist Church, Carbondale.
Joanne was known for her strong personality and she will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
She is survived by two sons, Ezra Swartz, Carbondale; and Stephen Swartz, Scranton; two daughters, Barbara Shust, Carbondale; and Susan Swartz, South Bridge, Mass.; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Janice Granville and Corrine Blake; and two brothers, Murvington and Harold Ort.
As per her request, private services will take place at the Sandy Banks Cemetery, Greenfield Twp.
Arrangements were entrusted to the Edward A. Wade Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., Carbondale.
