John Bannon Obituary
John Joseph Bannon, 72, of Waldorf, Md., passed away peacefully on March 23, 2023, after a short but hard-fought battle with cancer. He was born on Feb. 10, 1951, in Carbondale, Pennsylvania, and was the only son of the late John and Mary Bannon. He is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Sheila A. Bannon; and his three children, who he commonly referred to as "CBS," Sean (Gina), Caitlin and Brian. John was "Poppy" to his four grandchildren, who he loved dearly, Ryleigh, Quinn, Joslen and Dominic; as well as many cousins, in-laws or as he would say "the Outlaws," nieces, nephews and friends.
John graduated from the University of Scranton in 1973, where he obtained his bachelor's in accounting. After obtaining his degree, he went on to serve as controller for multiple companies throughout his career. Up until his passing, John worked at the family business, Scope Restoration, as the "Bookie," where he was highly valued for his expertise and dedication to his work.
John was an avid golfer. While in Carbondale, he was a member at Elkview Country Club, where he would spend countless hours on the course pursuing his love for the game. He was a founder with his son Sean at the Under Armour Junior Golf League of Southern Maryland, where he helped to inspire a new generation of young golfers including his favorite junior, Joslen. John was a diehard fan of Notre Dame football and the Phillies. He loved nothing more than attending games and cheering them on with his family and friends. John was also a proud member of the Waldorf Moose Lodge, where he enjoyed socializing with many friends.
John will be deeply missed by his family and friends, who will remember him for his warm smile, his witty remarks, his generous spirit and his unwavering dedication to his loved ones.
Family and friends may gather at Raymond's Funeral Home on Tuesday, April 11, 2023, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial to be held at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Pomfret, Md., on Wednesday April 12, 2023, at 11 a.m.
