John (Jack) R. Conaboy Jr., a resident of Moosic, was stricken ill on Friday and died shortly after at home. John and his wife, the "lovely" Cheryl Griffiths Conaboy, his partner for life, celebrated their 31st wedding anniversary in May.
Born in Moosic, he was the son of the late John R. Sr. and Lois Brennan Conaboy and Clare Cavanaugh Conaboy, was a graduate of Riverside High School, class of 1979 and completed his journeyman electrical apprentice through Penn State University. Following graduation he began his employment as an electrician with the Department of Defense working since 2004 at the Tobyhanna Army Depot. Jack took great pride in his work and received numerous awards and medals.
He traveled the world for Tobyhanna, but his last was his most important trip as he traveled to Florida last week to visit his first grandchild, Lucas John, his pride and joy.
Jack coached youth sports for both his children. He was "world famous" for his hamburgers at his July 4th party, his boneless wings, pizza and pea soup. He was short in stature, but had the heart of a giant.
In addition to his wife, John was a loving and devoted father to his daughter, Katharine Conaboy, Clarks Summit; his son, Christopher Conaboy and his wife, Karen, and their son, Lucas John, Miami, Fla.; sisters, Suzie McGlynn, Santa Fe, New Mexico; Mary Lou Fiala and her husband, Jim, Scranton; brothers, John Joseph Conaboy and his partner, Chris Whelan, Port St. Lucie, Fla.; Martin Conaboy, Dunmore; James Conaboy and his wife, Joette, Clarks Green; and Kevin Conaboy and his wife, Ariane, Waverly; many nieces, nephews, cousins; his loving in-laws; and fur babies, Dexter and Darby.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Michael Conaboy and beloved in-laws.
In keeping with Jack's wishes, the funeral was private. Services were entrusted to the Donahue Funeral Home, 303 S. Main Ave., Scranton, PA 18504. Memorial contributions in Jack's name may be made to the Nicklaus Children's Hospital Foundation, Coral Terrace, FL.
