Joseph Wieckowski, 90, of the Greenwood section of Moosic passed away Sunday at home. He is survived by his devoted wife of 65 years, the former Elizabeth "Liz" Wielebinski.
Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Anthony and Pearl Micklewicz Wieckowski and was a graduate of Scranton Technical High School, class of 1949. After high school, Joe worked for Vanston Cleaning Service until he entered the United States Air Force in 1951. He proudly served our country during the Korean War and attained the rank of staff sergeant. Joe retired from Consolidated Molding Products, where he was the supervisor in injection molding production. He attained his certification in injection molding from New York University. Joe was a faithful Catholic and a longtime member of the former St. Mary's of Czestochowa Church, Moosic. Following the consolidation of his church, he became a member of Nativity of Our Lord Parish, Duryea. Joe was an avid sports enthusiast, and his favorite teams were the New York Mets and the Washington Redskins.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Joseph "Jody" (Lisa), Moosic; two daughters, Lynn (John) DeSanto and Karen (Gerald) Marsh, all of Duryea; seven grandchildren, John (Danielle) Wieckowski, Michele Wieckowski, Jordan (Mary) Marsh; Matthew Marsh and fiancée, Felicia Dzielak; Gianna DeSanto, James Marsh and Josh DeSanto; two great-grandchildren, Brooks and Bellamy Wieckowski; two sisters, Florence Lapinski, Scranton; and Susan Kozloski, Lancaster; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, John, Edmund, Al and an infant brother, Richard; and two sisters, Betty Kregliewicz and Jean Pavlowski.
Family and friends are invited to attend Joe's funeral, which will begin Thursday at 9:15 a.m. from the Semian Funeral Home LLC, 704 Union St., Taylor, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Nativity of Our Lord Parish, 127 Stephenson St., Duryea, by the Rev. Michael Bryant, pastor. Interment with military honors, St. Mary's Czestochowa Cemetery, Moosic. Friends may call Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
