Lois Jean Zelazny, 80, of Throop, passed away Thursday, Sept. 14, at Allied Hospice in Scranton after an illness. Her husband of 53 years is Anthony Zelazny.
Born Sept. 24, 1942, in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Stanley and Dolores Howey Spooner. She was a graduate of Holy Rosary High School, Scranton Pa., in 1960. Prior to her retirement, Lois was employed by Casual Sportswear, where she was the top female bowler in the league. She also worked at the Dunmore EZ Shop, Gallagher's Grocery Store in Dickson City, and Super Market Service. Lois was a member of Blessed Sacrament Parish in Throop.
Lois was a polka lover and attended many polka weekends in the Catskills with her husband. She had a good sense of humor and always appreciated a good joke or a funny story. She attended many Throop Booster Club activities by participating in many trips to Toronto, Boston and the like. Lois and friends, along with her husband, attended many Carnival cruises to Bermuda, Nassau, Cape Canaveral and Nova Scotia. She attended many bingos with her mom at the Ukrainian Club and the American Legion, in Scranton, Pa.
The family would like to thank the staff at Geisinger Hospital, Allied Hospice in Scranton, and Home Health Care Professionals and Hospice for their great care and the compassion shown to Lois. Also, thanks are sent to Erica, Jessica and niece, Sue.
Surviving in addition to her husband are many nieces and nephews; and a friend of 75 years, Ann Bender, of New Columbia, Pa.
Lois was preceded in death by a nephew, Vince Scesney; niece, Myla Zelazny; and nephews, Edward McClemens and Frank Zelazny Jr.
A funeral Mass will be conducted Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2023, at 10 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Parish at St. Anthony's Church, 215 Rebecca St., Throop. Friends may call from 9 to 10 a.m. at the church.
