Loretta Yarema

Loretta Yarema, 90, a lifelong resident of Old Forge, died Tuesday evening at Moses Taylor Hospital in Scranton. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 54 years, John Yarema, Sr., on Sept. 20, 2002.

Born Nov. 22, 1927, daughter of the late John and Helen Kulpak, Loretta was a 1945 graduate of Old Forge High School. For many years before retirement, she worked for the former Dutchess Underwear Co., Old Forge. She was a faithful member of St. Michael's Church in Old Forge before its closure. She was a current member of Scranton's Divine Mercy Church Parish.

Loretta was a member of Club Wanda, a women's social club, and an avid quilter. She was also an excellent cook, specializing in Polish dishes. Kind, caring and friendly, she always wore an amazing smile. A friend to everyone she knew, she will be forever missed.

Her family would like to acknowledge and thank Drs. Michael Jalowiez and Chris Peters for the outstanding care and compassion given to Loretta throughout her illness.

She is survived by her sons, John Yarema Jr. and wife, Ceil, of Peckville; and David Yarema and wife, Jacqueline, of Moosic; many nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by siblings, Walter Ciaston; Joseph and Stanley Kulpak; Jean Brygadier; and Wanda Carey.

Funeral services will begin Tuesday at 9:15 a.m. from the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home Inc., 517 North Main St., Old Forge, with a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Divine Mercy Church Parish, 312 Davis St., Scranton, to be celebrated by the Rev. Francis Pauselli, pastor. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Old Forge.

Relatives and friends may pay their respects Monday from 4 to 6 p.m.
