Margaret Martin of South Abington Twp. passed away peacefully Wednesday, March 3, 2021, at Geisinger Community Medical Center after a brief illness. She was the widow of Cyril P. Martin, who died in 2006.
Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Metro and Nancy Kochon. Educated in Scranton schools, before retirement she was employed in the local garment industry.
Margaret loved to cook for the family, gardening and ironing. Her favorite family dinner was Friday night pizza. She was truly the matriarch of the family. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her whole life.
Margaret's family would like to thank the staff of DaVita Dialysis-Morgan Highway for their wonderful care. They would also like to thank Dr. William Dempsey who was not only her doctor but a friend.
Surviving are daughter, Ann Devine and husband, John, South Abington Twp., with whom she resided; six grandchildren, Kaitlyn Swift and husband, Patrick; Erin McAdarra and husband, John; Ryan Devine and wife, Amy; Colleen Price and husband, Scott; Matthew and James; five great-grandchildren, Patrick, Jacob and Elliott Swift, Jackson Devine and Amelia Margaret McAdarra.
She was preceded in death by daughter, Nancy Ann Martin; brother, John Kochon; and sister, Mary Martin.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held privately in the Church of St. Gregory, 330 N. Abington Road, Clarks Green. Interment in Holy Family Cemetery, Throop, will also be private.
Friends and family may pay their respects Sunday from 1 to 3 p.m. in the Solfanelli-Fiorillo Funeral Home Inc., 1030 N. Main Ave., Scranton. Social distancing guidelines will be enforced and masks will be required.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Margaret's memory to the National Kidney Foundation, 30 E. 33rd St., New York, NY 10016.
