Marian Walsh Chruney, 88, of Cumberland, R.I., passed away on Thursday, Oct. 21, 2021, at the Philip Hulitar, Hope Hospice and Palliative Care Center, Providence, R.I. She was the wife of the late John Chruney, with whom she celebrated 55 years of marriage.
Born in Archbald, Pa., she was the daughter of the late John E. and Mary (Wright) Walsh. Marian resided in Cumberland, R.I., for the past four years, previously residing in Pembroke and Norfolk, Mass.
Marian was a graduate of Blakely High School and attended Bloomsburg University, where she received a B.S. in business education and was a member of Pi Omega Pi, the business honor fraternity. She met her husband John while they were both at Bloomsburg University. They married in 1956 and raised five children. Marian was always involved with her children's many activities, clubs and organizations. She was a substitute teacher at King Philip High School, and after moving to Pembroke, she was a realtor for Jack Conway Real Estate, eventually opening her own company, Village Green Realty, before retiring.
She was an animal lover and avid reader who loved the library, going on outings with the Red Hats, playing cribbage and her many summers spent at Newton Lake.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John; and son-in-law, David A. Hood; as well as her beloved siblings, Nancy Lippert, June Teeple, Yvonne Moore and James Walsh.
She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, John Edward and Kathleen Walsh, of Colts Neck, N.J.; and her sisters-in-law, Gertrude Walsh, of Archbald, Pa.; and Regina Chruney Waradzin, of Reading, Pa.; her sons, George (Jeannie) Chruney, of Vancouver, Wash.; James (Donna) Chruney, of Greenfield Twp., Pa.; John (Linda) Chruney, of Uxbridge, Mass.; Jeff (Lori) Chruney, of Norton, Mass.; and her daughter, Colleen (William) Myers, of Camp Hill, Pa.; 10 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; many loving nieces and nephews.
Marian was buried with her husband John at the Massachusetts National Cemetery at a private family ceremony. Please consider making a donation in memory of Marian at your local library, animal shelter or hospice organization. She will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.
