Marie Johns Stets, 84, of Binghamton, New York, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 20, 2023, in Port Charlotte, Florida. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Bill Stets. Born in Scranton, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Anthony and Mary Johns. She was one of nine children: Frances Klotz, the late Philip Johns, Donna Malishewsky, Richard, William, Paul, Robert, Rita Boccadori.
Marie was an amazing woman and one of a kind. She was a devout Catholic and American patriot who embraced the many roles she assumed over the years as a wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin and friend. She made many sacrifices as her husband Bill served two combat tours in Vietnam. And, again when her daughter Diane served in the first Gulf War. She cherished and saved the letters her husband Bill wrote her during their courtship as a memory of how they first fell in love. She was a devoted and loving mother to her five children, Bill (Laurie), David, Lisa (Mark), Diane (Mario) and Krista (Kyle). Her home was always open and a welcoming place for the huge family gatherings she would host where she would cook long into the night to prepare the massive menu she planned for everyone to enjoy. Her childhood years formed the values that defined her adult years. Hard work, education and charity were among the many qualities that defined her life. She graduated from West Side High School in Scranton, Pa. She was a longtime member of St. Paul's Church in Binghamton, N.Y., where she volunteered to support the ministerial and charity work of the church. She graduated from Broome Community College and worked for N.Y. State in the medical records department until her retirement. She loved her home on Moffatt Avenue and took pride in renovating and maintaining her home with beautiful décor and garden setting. She also loved all her lifelong friends she made on Moffatt Avenue and all those amazing friends she made once moving to the Binghamton area. She never forgot to send a birthday card or wrap a gift to all those who simply adored her. She particularly loved all her grandchildren, Calla, Jacob, Gabriella, Alexandria, Madeline, Antonio, Mallory, Bridgette, Natalie, Daniel, Matthew and Sarah; and great-grandson, Jelani.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude for the compassionate care and professionalism of the staff at Port Charlotte Hospice Home in Port Charlotte, Florida.
