Mark Bonczkiewicz Obituary

Mark Paul Bonczkiewicz, 55, of Scott Twp., died Aug. 21 at home.

Born in Peckville, son of Ceil Theresa (Darlak) Bonczkiewicz of Scott Twp. and the late Joseph C. Bonczkiewicz, Mark was a graduate from Lakeland High School, and was employed as a pipefitter for Trane Co.

Mark loved his family, especially his mom. He enjoyed riding his quad with his dog, Buddy, down to the lake and fish all day to hook the big one. He appreciated Mother Nature, swimming, camping under the stars, kayaking down the river and watching a great lightning show from a summer thunderstorm. In his honor, Mark would say "Hug a Tree."

Mark's family would like to thank Officer Edward Frefcoin of the Scott Twp. police, Lackawanna County Coroner Timothy Roland and all emergency personnel who were involved.

In addition to his mother, Mark is survived by his brother, Joseph G. Bonczkiewicz and wife, Nancy, Scott Twp.; his sister, Linda Ann Bonczkiewicz and husband, John Nemeth, Dalton; nieces, Melanie Nittenger and husband, Gary, Sayre; Karen Prestyes and husband, Michael, Greenfield Twp.; and Jessica Warner and husband, Derrick, Thompkinsville; nephew, Jonathan Nemeth; and great-nephews, Andrew and Josh.

He was also preceded in death by his nephew, Joey.

A memorial service will be held on Sept. 13 at 11 a.m. at East Benton United Methodist Church, 170 Jordan Hollow Road, Dalton, located off the I-81 North Exit 201 for East Benton. At the bottom of exit ramp, turn left onto Route 438 west, bearing right at the Y toward Fleetville onto Jordan Hollow Road. Then proceed 0.6 miles to the church on the right side (570-563-273).

Those we love remain with us for love itself lives on, and cherished memories never fade because a loved one's gone...
Those we love can never be more than a thought apart, for as long as there is memory, they will live on in the heart.
May You all find comfort at this sad time in the memories we all share.

My deepest sympathy to Mark's family. Mark was one of my best friends while growing up in Justus. He was always a kind and giving person who loved the outdoors. We had the best times just sitting at "the rock" down the reservoir with Lori and Bernie. Mark was a "Freebird" and I will always have those great memories of him. My love to his family that he loved.

We were “best friends” for many years and although we sometimes went for periods of time without contact we always knew that the other was available. I always knew where to find him or what he would be doing in any particular season of the year. That has changed now and there is such a void in my heart. I loved him dearly. My deepest regrets to the Bonczkiewicz family,I know your lives are forever changed, I will in memory of Mark “Hug A Tree” and always look for his unseen presence at “The Reservoir.”
