Mary Ruth Long, 85, of Honesdale, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday evening, Feb. 18, 2022, at home. Her beloved husband of 62 years, Jay E. Long, survives her.
Born Nov. 20, 1936, in Bloomsburg, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Clair and Lavere (Sterner) Shoop.
Mary graduated from Benton High School. She later graduated from the Smith School of Practical Nursing. Mary attended evening courses of Bible at Central Penn Christian Training Institute, and also the former Baptist Bible College, now Clarks Summit University. For many years, Mary worked at Rexall Pharmacy in Tunkhannock. A member of Tabernacle Bible Church in Honesdale, she was a faithful Christian and servant of Jesus Christ. She will be fondly remembered and deeply missed by all who were blessed to know her.
In addition to her husband Jay, she is also survived by a son, Brent Long and his wife, Carol, of Memphis, Tenn.; and a daughter, Brenda Santoli, of Honesdale; two granddaughters, Kirstin and Kayla.
Mary was also preceded in death by two sisters, Grace and Joyce.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Feb. 24, at noon at the Tabernacle Bible Church, 455 Grove St., Honesdale, Pa., with Pastor John Banks officiating.
Friends may visit on Thursday from 10:30 to 11:45 a.m. in the church.
Burial and the graveside service will be on Friday, Feb. 25, at 11:30 a.m. in Elan Memorial Park Cemetery, 5595 Old Berwick Road, Bloomsburg, PA 17815. All attending are asked to go directly to the cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mary's memory to Tabernacle Bible Church, 455 Grove St., Honesdale, PA 18431; or Home Health Care Professionals Hospice, 520 Burke Bypass, Olyphant, PA 18447.
Arrangements are entrusted to Edward R. Howell, funeral director, Jenkins-Howell Funeral Home Inc., 269 Belmont St., Waymart, PA 18472.
