Mary Ann Butcher Malinics Mynyk

Mary Mynyk Obituary

Mary Ann Butcher Malinics Mynyk, 73, formerly of Taylor, died Thursday at Moses Taylor Hospital. Her first husband, Michael Malinics, died in 1972, and her second husband, Nicholas Mynyk, died Jan. 7, 2000.

Born in Taylor, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Ann Sadowski Butcher and was a 1955 graduate of Taylor High School. For several years, Mary Ann worked for Bell Telephone and retired from Topps Chewing Gum in 1976, where she worked for 20 years. She was a parishioner of St. Michael's Ukrainian Orthodox Church and its St. Mary's Sisterhood. Over the years, she was very active with the church picnics, especially making the potato pancakes. Mary Ann enjoyed being a den mother and working with the Cub and Boy Scouts. Her greatest joy was her family, and she cherished each moment she spent with them and the time she lived with her daughter.

Surviving are three children, Dr. Michael Malinics, D.O., and wife, Lilli, Waterbury, Conn.; Nicholas Michael Mynyk, Pineville; and Lisa Ann Kimes and husband, Daniel, Moosic; five grandchildren, Michael and Philip Malinics; Ariel, Kaitlyn and Danny Kimes; two brothers, Hank Butcher and wife, Nancy, Taylor; and George Butcher and wife, Beverly, Moscow.

The funeral will be Monday at 8:45 a.m. from the Semian Funeral Home, 704 Union St., Taylor, followed by Divine Liturgy at 9:30 in St. Michael's Ukrainian Orthodox Church, West Scranton, by the Very Rev. Nestor Kowal. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery. Friends may call Sunday, 3 to 6 p.m. Parastas services will be at 5. Visit www.semiancares.com to share memories or extend condolences.
