Maurice B. Mannion

Maurice B. Mannion, 68, of Scranton, formerly of Carbondale, died Wednesday at Geisinger Community Medical Center, Scranton.

Born in Carbondale, son of the late Walter and Elizabeth Zeleski Mannion, he was a 1967 graduate of Lakeland High School and a graduate of King's College and Catholic Universiy in Washington, D.C. He had a master's degree in social work and English. Maurice resided in Maryland from 1973-1990 and Las Vegas from 1990-2005. While in Nevada, he was employed as a social worker in Child and Family Services and in veterans home work. He was a Vietnam War Army veteran doing two tours. Maurice enjoyed going to Mohegan Sun with his very best friend, Helen Conrad. He dearly loved his dogs, Carson and Bo.

Surviving are three sisters, Michele Czyzyk and companion, Fred Maddage, New York; Cheryl Vadala and husband, Joseph, Mayfield; and Wendy Serge, Childs; a half-brother, Chester Karchinski and wife, Kay, New York; nieces and nephews, Pat Vadala, Florida; Melissa Fallon, Texas; Jennifer Serge, Honesdale; James Serge, Vandling; Anthony Serge, Mayfield; Tom Fallon, Mayfield; Marci Wormuth, Mayfield; and Joe Vadala, Archbald; great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was also preceded in death by a niece, Ann Serge; and nephew, Michael Serge.

Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Interment, Calvary Cemetery, Mayfield.
