Melanie "Mel" Dougher, 66, of Dalton, formerly of the Bellevue section of Scranton, passed Friday evening at the Allied Hospice Center, Scranton.
Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Julia Mokis Jaworski. Mel was a 1973 graduate of West Scranton High School, a member of St. Ann's Parish and had been a cashier for Price Chopper up until her illness.
She is survived by her husband of 48 years, William Dougher; their daughters, Julia Brister and husband, Brian, Clarks Summit; and Sommur Connor and husband, Brian, Dalton; four grandchildren, Madison and Brennan Connor, Zachary and Avary Brister; her sister, Donna Celuck and husband, Richard, Old Forge; one niece and six nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents; her son, Sgt. William "Billy" Dougher; and a sister, Deborah Ruddy.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. in the Edward J. Chomko Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 262 Railroad Ave., West Scranton, by the Rev. Richard Burke, pastor of Basilica of St. Ann Parish. Interment will follow at Cathedral Cemetery.
Viewing for family and friends will be on Tuesday, 4 to 7 p.m. Due to family allergies, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Allied Services Hospice Center, 511 Morgan Highway, Scranton, PA 18508.
