Michael "Mike" Kerecman, 93, of Dickson City, passed away peacefully Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 29, at Regional Hospital of Scranton following an illness. His loving wife of 70 years is Teresa (Sadowski) Kerecman.
Born in Dickson City, son of the late John and Helen (Pandich) Kerecman, he was educated in Dickson City schools and was an active member of St. Anthony's Church in Throop. He was a member and past president of the Holy Name Society and served on many other committees, including the 300 Club. He and his wife Teresa were instrumental in the parish Holy Name Society 300 Club semi-annual fundraising dinners every year, for more than 35 years, which helped the parish remodel the basement and church hall.
He honorably served his country with the United States Army, serving with the 57th Motor Vehicle Squadron at Ft. Richardson, Alaska, and was a member of the Army Corps of Engineers that built the first highway system in Alaska. He was employed for many years as a furniture repairman and truck driver for Blatt's Furniture in Throop. Mike had a passion for gardening and would pass his knowledge on to his family and friends, especially his daughter Marcie, who greatly enjoyed those moments with her father. He was a kind and loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend to many, and will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him.
The family would like to give a special thank you to Julie, for all of her love, effort and support, during this difficult time.
In addition to his wife Teresa, he is survived by his children, Mark and wife, Susie Kerecman of Dickson City, Marcie Lopera and husband, Luis of Scott Twp., and Michael Kerecman and companion, Julia Treat of Dickson City; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three brothers, John, Andrew and Joseph; and three sisters, Ann, Julianna and Mary.
Viewing hours will be private. Those attending the funeral are asked to go directly to the church the morning of the funeral and are asked to follow CDC guidelines with masks and social distancing.
The funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. in St. Anthony's Church, Rebecca Street, Throop, to be celebrated by the Rev. Scott P. Sterowski, pastor. Interment with military honors will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Scott Twp.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Uncle Mike was a great uncle and a very good man. When I was young he showed me by example what it was like to be a good husband, a good father and a good man. I think highly of him, I will miss him and I will pray for him.
