Mildred Klapatch

Mildred (Mickey) Klapatch, 94, of Scott Twp., died Wednesday evening at Abington Manor, South Abington Twp., after an illness. She was the widow of Joseph Klapatch, who died in 1982.

Born in Olyphant, daughter of the late Leo E. and Julia Kowalchek Anderson, she was a high school graduate. Mickey was a devoted member of SS. Cyril & Methodius Ukrainian Catholic Church in Olyphant and was an avid churchgoer who would make various pilgrimages to religious places in Europe and Canada. She enjoyed traveling across the United States, anywhere from Florida to California, and wouldn't skip the chance for a picture with any of the Disney characters. She never missed a family get together and would often want to stay until she fell asleep in the chair watching her children and grandchildren open presents at Christmas. She will be sorely missed by her family, friends and church parishioners.

The family would like to thank Dr. Michael Kondash, the nurses and staff members at Abington Manor, and Hospice of the Sacred Heart for their dedicated, compassionate and excellent care.

She is survived by three sons, Kenneth Klapatch of Rawlins, Wyo., Calvin Klapatch and wife Nancy of Factoryville, Bruce Klapatch and wife Heidi of South Abington Twp.; one daughter, Tamara Klapatch of South Abington Twp.; several grandsons and granddaughters; one great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband Joseph, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Patricia Anderson, Marie Kashuba and Theresa Novajosky.

There are no funeral home viewing hours. There will be a funeral Divine Liturgy on Tuesday at 10 a.m. in SS. Cyril & Methodius Church, River Street, Olyphant, celebrated by Rev. Nestor Iwasiw, pastor. Interment will follow in St. Cyril's Cemetery, Peckville. The family will receive friends on Tuesday at the church from 9 a.m. until time of service.
