Nicholas M. Genovese, 61, of Moosic, passed away Saturday evening at Hospice of the Sacred Heart in Dunmore after a brief illness.
Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late William O. Sr. and Elizabeth McCabe Genovese. He was a graduate of North Pocono High School. Nick was part of the local bar and restaurant trade for more then 40 years having dual careers as a bartender and cook. He began his career as a cook at the former Bill's Daleville Diner and as a bartender at the former Villa Genovese. He was employed by many area bars and restaurants through the years, including other family-owned venues.
Nick had a cheerful demeanor and a mile-wide smile that was infectious. He was very family-oriented, his brothers and his nieces and nephews meant the world to him. He was a voracious reader of all genres, especially world history, autobiographies and mystery novels. He also enjoyed finishing a newspaper crossword puzzle before anyone else could try. Nick was an avid hunter and fisherman who greatly appreciated the outdoors. He enjoyed camping and boating, as well as the occasional round of golf. He also contributed to the care and welfare of many pets through the years. He will be sadly missed by all those who knew and loved him.
Surviving are brothers, William, Moosic; and David and his wife, Mina, Gouldsboro; nieces, nephews, a great-nephew and numerous cousins.
The funeral will be Monday from the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home Inc., 318 E. Drinker St., Dunmore, with a 10 a.m. Mass at St. Catherine's Church, 220 Church St., Moscow. Interment, St. Catherine's Cemetery, Moscow.
