Costello-Runyon Funeral Home - Metuchen
568 Middlesex Ave
Metuchen, NJ

Patricia Albanese, 87, recently of Barnegat, N.J., died Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2021, in her childhood hometown of Carbondale. Patricia is now reunited with her husband of 64 years, Joseph, whom she loved and longed for since his passing five years ago.

Born in Carbondale, she is the daughter of the late Patrick and Mildred Jones Caviston Jr.

Always one to greet you with a warm, caring smile and a positive outlook, she remained selfless to the end with an unmatched love for her family and life. Naturally, nursing was her chosen profession, starting as one of the original nurses at JFK Hospital then retiring as the school nurse at Lincoln Elementary School in Edison after 35 years. She distinguished herself as a never-ending source of love and caring and was a fearless advocate for thousands of kids and families throughout the years. While raising a family, she earned her registered nursing degree from Jersey City State College. She pursued life optimistically, was quick to forgive, and was ever the peacemaker. Everyone was better for knowing her.

We will miss her smile, her laughter, her never-ending love and affection.

Patricia is survived by her three sons, Matthew, Mark and Michael; two sisters, Elizabeth Crogan and husband, Dick of Carbondale, and Millie Mitchell and husband, Dan of Mount Pocono; three brothers, Tom Caviston and wife, Mary of Archbald, Jerry Caviston and wife, Barbara of Greenfield Twp., and Wayne Caviston of Carbondale; seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by two brothers, Patrick III and Paul; and a sister-in-law, Mary.

Visitation will be Friday, Dec. 10, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Costello-Runyon Funeral Home, 568 Middlesex Ave. (Rt. 27), Metuchen.

The funeral Mass will be held Saturday, Dec. 11, at 10:15 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Cathedral in Metuchen.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Disabled American Veterans at www.dav.org.
