Paul J. Sampson, 85, of Scranton, died Friday at Allied Hospice Center, Scranton. He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Helen Zdonski. The couple had been married for 56 years.
Born Feb. 8, 1937, son of the late Laura Sampson, he was a veteran of the United States Navy and a graduate of Scranton Technical High School. He was previously employed by Chamberlain Mfg. and Conrail.
He is survived by his daughters, Kathy Regan and husband, Jim, Elmhurst; and Carolyn Grier and husband, Jim, Fuquay-Varina, N.C.; son-in-law, John Cranston, Silver Spring, Md.; grandchildren, Mark Grier and wife, Meredith, Champlin, Minn.; Thomas Grier and husband, Ben Murphy, St. Paul, Minn.; Brian Grier, Novi, Mich.; Kayla Regan, Champigneulles, France; Claire Leick and husband, Seth, Sunol, Calif.; and Josh Cranston, Pensacola, Fla.; great-grandchildren, Madelynn, Dominic and Jayce; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Terry Cranston; sisters, Joan Zimmerman and Jean Napolitano; and a brother, George Sampson.
As per his request, he will be buried at sea. No additional services are scheduled. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Keystone Mission, 8-12 W. Olive St., Scranton, PA 18508.

dear Kathy & family
what can be said about Mr Sampson except that he was a kind person & a true gentleman. we all considered him our friend & one of our favorite customers. we loved his sense of humor & he loved it even more when we gave it right back to him. we will truly miss him. Mr Sampson was one of the best.
