Richard F. Carr

Richard F. "Dickie" Carr, 56, of Dunmore, died Sunday evening at home. His wife of 30 years, Patricia Spillane Carr, was with him as he entered heaven.

Born in Reading, Pa., he was the son of Joseph and Dolores Becker Carr, Dunmore. Richard was a graduate of Dunmore High School, class of 1979, and attended the University of Scranton and Marywood College. He was a longtime employee of Mercy Hospital. Richard went on to serve as director of community development for the city of Carbondale. After his time in Carbondale, Richard served his hometown of Dunmore as borough manager and later served as the borough manager of Kidder Twp. He was employed by the tax assessors office of Lackawanna County. He was a member of St. Peter's Cathedral in Scranton. Richard was also a longtime member of the Irish Cultural Society in Scranton. He was a proud Penn State football fan and season ticketholder, but he was more proud to be the father of his two daughters Colleen and Delia. There was never a triumph or accomplishment in their lives that he was not a part of.

Richard was a kind, loving and loyal husband, father, son, brother and friend who will be missed for his witty personality and intellect. He truly loved being surrounded by family and friends, especially his Frank's boys.

Surviving are his wife, Patricia Spillane Carr, of Dunmore; daughters, Colleen, New York City; Delia, Pittsburgh; sisters, Kathleen, of Dunmore; Carol Giumento and husband, Joseph, Dunmore, and their children, Erin and Kyle. Also surviving are a mother-in-law, Patricia Spillane, Bellmore, N.Y.; brothers-in-law, John and James Spillane, Bellmore, N.Y.; sisters-in-law, Eileen Spillane, San Francisco, Calif.; and Kathleen Spillane and her daughter, Lillian, Bellmore, N.Y.

He was preceded in death by uncles, Francis and Robert Carr; and his father-in-law, James B. Spillane, Bellmore, N.Y.

The funeral will be Friday with Mass of Christian Burial at St. Peter's Cathedral, 315 Wyoming Ave., Scranton, at 9:30 a.m. All those attending the Mass are asked to go directly to the church. Friends may call Thursday from 2 to 7 p.m. at the Albert P. O'Donnell Funeral Home, 2025 Green Ridge St., Dunmore.
