Richard J. Hannick, 67, of Old Forge, died Saturday after a brief illness. He was the husband of Laurie Marcinko Hannick.
Born in Scranton on Nov. 9, 1954, to the late Caryll (Ritchie) Zangardi and Richard Hannick, he was an avid New York Yankees fan and loved traveling to the city whenever he could. While there he enjoyed watching Yankees baseball, seeing Broadway shows, and visiting the many restaurants, bakeries and markets in Little Italy. He was a phenomenal cook and one of his greatest joys was being in the kitchen. No holiday nor family gathering was complete without one of Richard's world class meals.
Surviving in addition to his wife are his sons, Richard Hannick and wife, Sarah, Pen Argyl; and Brandon Hannick, Old Forge; grandsons, Brody and Hudson Hannick; sisters, Leah Summers and husband, Paul, Florida; and Sunny Ann Schwartz and husband, Joseph, Moosic; a brother, William Hannick and wife, Lynda, Scranton; as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; as well as his second father, Sonny Zangardi; and a brother, John J. Hannick, in 2009.
A blessing service will be held Friday at 6 p.m. at the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home Inc., 517 N. Main St., Old Forge. Family and friends may pay their respects Friday from 4 p.m. until services at the funeral home. Please visit the funeral home's website for directions or to leave a condolence.
