Robert J. Foley, 59, of the Green Ridge section of Scranton, died Saturday at Geisinger Community Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Scranton on Oct. 13, 1962, he was the son of attorney and Mrs. Thomas J. Foley Jr. and the late Helen M. Eagen Foley. Following his graduation from Bishop O'Hara High School, Rob was employed by the Foley Law Firm and was a proud and dedicated member of its staff for many years. In addition to working for the firm, he was the enthusiastic owner of rental property which catered to the needs of Marywood University students. He enjoyed being able to interact with many generations of those students and making affordable housing available to them.
Rob was an avid reader of a wide variety of subjects but was especially knowledgeable in American, European and world history. He also loved to travel and enjoyed many trips to Florida to visit family. He would attend any family gathering and was looking forward to traveling to the weddings of nieces and nephews in the upcoming year.
Rob was a kind, gentle and generous man who would readily help anyone and who often did lend his time and energy to assisting those who needed him.
In addition to his father and stepmother, Rob is survived by brothers, attorney Thomas J. Foley III, attorney Michael J. Foley (Karen), attorney Kevin P. Foley (companion, Hilary Blake) and James Foley (Darlene); as well as nieces, Erin, Kelly, Tara and Lindsey Foley; and nephews, Thomas, Ryan, Sean and Todd Foley, all of whom he adored; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
The family is very appreciative of the excellent care that Rob received in the Geisinger CMC emergency room, from the nursing staff on the third floor, the nurses of Interim Health Care and Drs. Lisa Thomas and Thomas Churilla.
Friends may call Tuesday, May 17, between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. at the Albert P. O'Donnell Funeral Home, 2025 Green Ridge St., Dunmore. So very sad hearing about the passing of my dear high school friend Robbie. Robbie was one of my first new friends at Bishop O'hara. Staying close for 4 years, he escorted me to our Senior Prom. Robbie was very funny but even more importantly his kindness and sincerity was radiant. My deepest condolences to the entire Foley family. I know he will be missed by all.

I am so saddened to hear this sudden news regarding the passing of Robby..
Although I had not seen him in many years since our school days, I remember well being friends thru elementary, junior high, and some of high school as well.. and also meant knowing other members of the large Foley family, Rob's many siblings I met thru him also during those years.. All of us who associated amongst a large circle of mutual friends during those days.. I remember Robby as a soft spoken and really friendly guy to most everyone that knew him, and recall him having a subtle, humorous side to him too if circumstance arose. . My sincere Condolences to Robby's many siblings and entire Foley family and friends.
