Robert J. Scheller Jr., 51, a South Scranton resident, died Saturday morning at Regional Hospital of Scranton after an illness.
Born in Scranton, he was the son of Robert Sr. and Claire Uhl Scheller, Scranton. He was a graduate of Scranton Preparatory High School, received his bachelor's degree from the University of Scranton, and his master's degree in molecular biology and gene therapy from the University of Rochester. He performed many researches at universities around the country. Bob was last employed by Penn State University Library.
Also surviving is his sister, Amy Scheller Tutino; two brothers, Christopher and Jeff Scheller; and his fiancée, Jennifer Mahalidge, all of Scranton; aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was also preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, John and Claire Lantolf Uhl; and his paternal grandparents, Edmund and Margaret Doyle Scheller.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 10 a.m. in St. Ann's Basilica, 1233 St. Ann's St. Inurnment, Cathedral Cemetery.
Friends may call Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the August J. Haas Funeral Home Inc., 202 Pittston Ave. All are asked to go directly to church Thursday morning.
