Samual Cicchillo

Samual "Sam" Cicchillo, 95, of West Scranton, formerly of the Hill Section of Scranton, died Friday morning in the Laurels Health and Rehab at Mid Valley, Peckville. He and his wife, the former Rose Murray, celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary on July 3.

Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Giuseppe and Philomena DeLeo Cicchillo. Educated in Scranton schools, he was a graduate of Scranton Technical High School, class of 1933. Prior to retirement, he was employed for 38 years as a baker for Williams Bakery of Scranton. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, Scranton. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who enjoyed taking walks throughout the Hill Section until he was 92. He and his wife were frequent spectators at the Little League, Teener League and American Legion games of East Scranton. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends. Sam's family would like to express its sincere gratitude to the staff of the Laurels Health and Rehab at Mid Valley and Hospice of the Sacred Heart for their kindness given to Sam.

Also surviving are a son, Robert, San Diego; a daughter, Kay and husband, Bob, Scranton; two grandsons, Ryan Croy, Santa Monica, Calif.; and Brett Cicchillo and wife, Sydney, New York City; a great-granddaughter, Taylor Rose Cicchillo, New York City; nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Charles, Peter and Joseph; and three sisters, Catherine Cicchillo, Lucy Dutekevich and Annette Lenko.

The funeral will be Tuesday from the Carl J. Savino Jr. Funeral Home, 157 S. Main Ave, West Scranton, with Mass at 9:30 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Church, 801 Taylor Ave. Interment, St. Patrick's Cemetery, Olyphant. Friends may call Monday, 5 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the activity department of the Laurels Health and Rehab at Mid Valley, 81 Sturges Road, Peckville, PA 18452. People attending the funeral are asked to go directly to church.
