Thomas "Teese" O'Neill, 76, of Scranton, died Tuesday at Hospice of the Sacred Heart, after a short, but intensely fought battle with cancer. His wife is the former Jane Kelleher. They celebrated 43 years of marriage on Oct. 25, 2023.
Born Dec. 2, 1947, he was the son of the late Thomas and Freda Cox O'Neill. He proudly served his country during the Vietnam War in the United States Army. He was the proprietor of Tom O'Neill Roofing for over 45 years. Tom and his work were both well respected by his employees and many repeat customers. His work ethic and pride in his work were seen right up until his most recent diagnosis.
Tom was a devoted parishioner of Holy Rosary Church. He was a member of VFW Post 25 and the Tauras Club, where he enjoyed spending time with lifelong friends. Tom enjoyed riding his bike daily, golfing and hunting. His greatest joy was his family, a family that will greatly miss his stories, sense of humor and his often comical words of wisdom.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to the staff at Hospice of the Sacred Heart for their compassionate care of their beloved husband, father and papa. The family would also like to thank Dr. Gerard Nealon and the seventh floor nursing staff of Regional Hospital, especially Tina Goodwin, RN, for her unwavering kindness and empathetic care.
Surviving, in addition to his wife Jane, are his daughters, Elizabeth McLane and husband, Thomas, of Dunmore; Meghan and fiancé, John Cabets, of Olyphant; his son, Thomas and companion, Danielle Beyer, of Dickson City; sister, Julia (Judy) Borgia and husband, Joseph, of Scranton; brother-in-law, Mike Nycz, of Scranton; and numerous and loved nieces and nephews. Tom is also survived by the light of his life, his granddaughter, Clare Margaret McLane. He was preceded in death by sisters, Ann Marie Tomczyk and Mary Ellen Nycz.
The funeral will be conducted Monday from the Solfanelli-Fiorillo Funeral Home Inc., 1030 N. Main Ave., Scranton, with Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in Holy Rosary Church, 316 William St., Scranton. All attending the Mass are kindly asked to proceed directly to church Monday morning. Interment will follow in Cathedral Cemetery, Scranton. Family and friends may call Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. in the funeral home.
