Timothy "Timmy" McGurrin, 61, a longtime resident of the Hill Section of Scranton, died on Wednesday at home. He was reunited with his wife, Kimberly Hatala McGurrin, who preceded him in death 22 years ago to the day, on Aug. 4, 1999.
Born in Scranton, son of the late John and Marilou Major McGurrin, Timmy was a graduate of Bishop Hannan High School, class of 1978. Timmy worked in the medical field throughout his career - in medical supplies and inventory control at Mercy Hospital and Community Medical Center, and as a procurement technician at the Musculoskeletal Foundation. Tim had a deep appreciation of nature, and the peace and solitude that fishing and hunting provided for him. Timmy was a "diehard" Dallas Cowboy fan, much to his frustration, save for the five Super Bowls "America's Team" won, unquestionably due to his mojo. Family and friends knew better than to call him when "My 'Boys" were playing! Caring and kind, Tim was a big man of few words, with an even bigger heart.
He is survived by a brother, Marty McGurrin and wife, Mary Jane; two sisters, Judy Gavern and husband, John; and Barbara Gleich and husband, Eddie, all of Scranton; and nine nieces and nephews who just adored their Uncle Timmy - Christopher, Matthew and Jeffrey McGurrin, and Bridget Edmonds, Stacey Locker and Johnny Gavern, Debbie Coyle, Karen and Patti Gleich; a dear friend, Ellen Dzak; and several cousins.
Timmy was preceded in death by as sister, Patricia McGurrin Brooks; and a brother, John Joseph McGurrin, who died in infancy.
A reception and blessing service will be conducted Friday at the Edward Knight O'Donnell Funeral Home LLC, 323 William St., Scranton. Family and friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m., with Deacon Albert Giacometti conducting services, beginning at 6:30 p.m. Visitors without COVID-19 vaccination are required to wear masks. Interment is private at the convenience of the family, and will occur at Cathedral Cemetery, Scranton, where Timmy will be laid to rest beside his beloved Kim.
Memorial donations may be directed to the Hospice of the Sacred Heart, 600 Baltimore Drive, Wilkes-Barre, PA 18702; the American Diabetes Association, 63 N. Franklin St., Wilkes-Barre, PA 18701; or to the charity of the donor's choice.
