Vincent Cesari, 95, of Throop, died Sunday morning at home, surrounded by his family. His loving wife of 72 years, the former Veronica Romanowsky, died Sept. 3, 2022.
Born in Nanticoke, son of the late Sebastian and Mary Ceccarelli Cesari, he honorably served his country in the United States Navy during World War II and Korea as a machinist mate 3rd class and was the recipient of the World War II Victory Medal and the American Area Campaign Medal. He was a devoted member of Blessed Sacrament Parish at St. Anthony's Church in Throop, and was a founding member of the Parish Holy Name Society. He loved sports and was active in his community, and was a founding member and first president of the Mid-Valley Booster Club. He enjoyed bowling, golf, traveling to Myrtle Beach, S.C., and spending time with his family and friends.
He is survived by one son, Richard Cesari and wife, Julie, of Dickson City; six grandchildren, Ami Battle, Vincent Cesari III, Jolie Cesari, all of Throop; Melaina and husband, Gerard Dolinsky, of Scott Twp.; James and wife, Cyndee Cesari, of California; Jonathan Cesari, of Dickson City; 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; one sister, Adrienne Vavrick, of Dickson City; one daughter-in-law, Deborah Barnick Cesari, of Throop; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Vincent Cesari Jr.; and two brothers, Andrew and Charles.
The funeral will be Friday at 9 a.m. from the John J. Turko & Sons Funeral Home, 402 Boulevard Ave., Dickson City, with Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in St. Anthony's Church, Rebecca Street, Throop. Interment, with military honors, will follow in Fairview Memorial Park Cemetery, Elmhurst.
Friends may call Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. The Holy Name Society will recite the rosary at 6:30 p.m.
