Willard W. Weisenfluh went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, July 26 at his home in Taylor. He is survived by his devoted wife, the former Elizabeth Fabrizio. Together Willard and Betty celebrated 54 years of marriage.
Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Willard W. and Mary Procik Weisenfluh and was a 1965 graduate of West Scranton High School. While in high school, Willard excelled in football, track and baseball. He went on to accept a football scholarship to Arizona State University. He remained a lifelong sports fan introducing his children to competitive sports while coaching their youth teams.
Willard served his country with honor as a member of the United States Army Reserves. He worked 24 years for Superior Fireproof Door and Sash Co. and until retirement, worked diligently in maintenance for the Scranton School District, leaving a positive impact on students and colleagues alike. A very proud member of the Ukranian Veterans Club and the Taylor Legion, Willard enjoyed countless hours amongst friends. He dedicated his time in service to others at the St. Francis of Assisi Kitchen in Scranton.
Willard loved his family, especially his grandchildren. Every spring, he enjoyed planting his garden, garlic being his specialty. He was a man of great faith and he always looked to the word of God for trust and consolation.
Willard was a fiercely loyal friend and although his presence will be sadly missed by all those dear to him, they will cherish the memory of his genuine, compassionate nature, as well as his witty sense of humor – he will remain in the hearts of his loved ones forever!
In addition to his wife, left to cherish his memory are a daughter, Wendy (Jimmy) Haggerty; and a son, David (Sarah); four beloved grandchildren, Liza and Gia Lettieri and Willard and Dylan Weisenfluh; two sisters, Mary Kay Jones and Gayle (Jeff) Carruthers; nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by an infant son, Willard; and a brother-in-law, Ed Jones.
Family and friends may call Wednesday, July 31 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Semian Funeral Home LLC, 704 Union St., Taylor. Words of remembrance will be at 6 p.m.
