William J. Walsh, 91, of the Minooka section of Scranton, passed away Sunday morning at Mountain View Care Center in Scranton. His wife of 48 years is the former Diane M. Bolton.

Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Patrick Walsh and Nora (Donnelly) Walsh. Bill was a graduate of Minooka High School and the University of Scranton, where he received a bachelor's degree in criminal justice. He was employed as a police officer for the City of Scranton, where he retired as detective after 35 years of service. Following his retirement from the Scranton Police Department, Bill worked as a probation officer for the Lackawannna County Adult Probation and Parole Office, where he spent 10 years working with the ARD Program. He was a member of the Divine Mercy Parish, Minooka, the American Legion Post 568, and the Minooka Lions Club, where he briefly served as president. He deeply loved his Irish heritage and enjoyed watching Notre Dame football and Boston Red Sox baseball.

Bill had a kind, gentle and easygoing personality. He was loved and respected by all who knew him. As a loving husband, father and grandfather, family meant everything to Bill, and the memories he created with them will be cherished forever.

Bill was preceded in death by his brother, Francis Walsh.

Bill's passing is an enormous loss to everyone who knew him. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Diane; his sons, William and wife, Maryann; and Michael, both of Scranton; his daughter, Kelly Malinowski and husband, Robert, Archbald; his stepson, Christopher Day and wife, Kelly, Flourtown; and his grandchildren, Jacob, Keegan and Liam Walsh, Kaden and Kody Malinowski, and Jack, Katie and Emmie Day.

The family would like to thank the staff at Mountain View Care Center, Scranton, for their compassionate care of Bill.
