Duncan Leitch Obituary

Duncan J. "Dunc" Leitch Columbus Township Duncan James Leitch, 89, of Columbus Township, died November 20, 2010 at the home of his daughter in Wolverine Lake surrounded by family. He was born May 7, 1921 in Columbus Township to the late James Henry and Mary Ellen Leitch. He learned farming, gardening, poultry raising and the care of horses and cows at an early age from helping his parents. He entered the Merchant Marines and served in WWII. After returning from the war, he married Gloria R. Lueck on October 25, 1947 at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church. They enjoyed 60 years of marriage before Gloria's death on November 13, 2007. During those years Duncan worked at Carboloy, U.S. Rubber, farmed, combined and worked as a tool and die maker at Eureka Tool. Together with his wife, he bought and refurbished several properties. He then became an over the road truck driver for Central Cartage while leasing his own trucks to Bonanza Door & Window Company. Finally, Duncan worked for and retired from Massey Ferguson with the distinction of "two million accident free miles". Duncan was a wonderful son and brother and a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather who enjoyed his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren immensely. He was always generous with his time and resources, forever willing and available to lend a hand. Friends and family look back fondly on all parties and barbecues he and Gloria hosted. Most of all, Duncan will be remembered for his hearty, infectious laughter and unconditional love. He is survived by his four children, Susan (Rick) Dysinger of Marysville, James (Mary) Leitch of Columbus, Jane (Dennis) Caplinger of Wolverine Lake, and Lori (Rusty) Wilson of Columbus; nine grandchildren, Rick, Kristen and Jeffrey (Tiffani) Dysinger, Katie (Nathan) Foreman, Rachel Leitch, Dennis and Benjamin Caplinger, and Nickolas and Jessica Wilson; three great grandchildren, Conner Foreman, and Chloe and Jake Dysinger; several nieces and nephews; and his loving caregiver, Celia Fine. He was preceded in death by his two sisters, Doris Krause and Barbara Bowman Giamo. Visitation will be from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday and 10-11 a.m. Tuesday in the Marysville Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 23, 2010 in the Marysville Funeral Home. Burial will be in St. Philip Neri Cemetery with his grandchildren serving as pallbearers. Military honors will be conducted under the auspices of the St. Clair County Allied Veterans. Dear Sue & Rick and Family, please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you at this time. We all know all to well what it is to lose someone that we love. But just as I did this past summer when I lost Craig, take comfort in knowing that your Father is in good hands now and will be taken care of. That is what helped me to let go of Craig, knowing that He will no longer have any pain or suffer from any kind of illness again. God Bless all of You!
Sincerely, Kim McDonald
