JAMES GALBRAITH
OAK RIDGE, TN. - James Lee (Jim) Galbraith, 76, formerly of Alton, Illinois, passed away peacefully in his sleep at home on the morning of June 17, 2017. He was born on September 15, 1940 in Marlow, Tennessee; the ninth of ten children, to the late Reverend Hubert A. and the late Barbara E. (Bennett) Galbraith.
After Jim was honorably discharged from the Marines, he moved to the Alton, Illinois area where he joined his older brother working for McDonnell Douglas Aircraft Corporation in Saint Louis, Missouri. There he raised his children and was very active in the Wood River Volunteer Emergency Corps. Upon his retirement, Jim moved back home to the Oak Ridge area where he married Janet Carroll on Aug 12, 2004. She survives. Jim was a kind and loving soul who cared for several of his sisters in their later years.
Jim is also survived by six children: Laura (Chris Jones) Collman, Jessie (Michael) Kochersperger, James Lee (Tiffany) Galbraith Jr., Bridget (Ron) Hasenbank, Chris (Kathy) Barger and Wendy (Michael) Schafer, 19 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and many loving nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Jim was also preceded in death by his brother Clarence Galbraith and eight sisters; Margaret Sanders, Esteleen Ridenour, Imogene Garrett, Dorothy Walter, Norma Budoff, Joyce Dabney, Opal Galbraith-Williams and Alma Brannon.
A memorial service in honor of Jim's life is planned for the Alton Moose Lodge on Sunday, July 2, 2017 from noon until 5 p.m.
