Ludwik Wit Obituary

Ludwik "Lou" Wit

Lou Wit, formerly a resident of St Clair Shores and Port Huron, died on February 10th.  

Lou was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Mary.  He is survived by his children, Roger (Susan), Derek (Mary Ann), David (Shelley), Marilou (Dan) Shaughnessy and Brian (Jane) and 14 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

In addition to his family, Lou loved the state of Michigan, travel and reading history.  Born in Braddock, PA, he served his country during World War II as a Motor Machinist Mate in the US Navy.  The majority of Lou's career was spent working for the Detroit News where he was the Superintendent of the Commercial Marine Terminal.  Prior to that he spent many years as Assistant Superintendent of the Detroit News Pressroom managing through the transition of the Times Square Plant pressroom and the start-up of the Mound Road press room.

After retiring from the Detroit News in 1988, he devoted his time to his family, travel and working at his son Brian and Jane's business, Ullenbruch's Flowers and Gifts in Port Huron.

A memorial service will be held at St Hubert Catholic Church in Harrison Township, MI on April 30th, Lou's 90th birthday.  Donations can be made in his name to the Salvation Army.
