Richard A. Polovich Lake Worth, FL A memorial celebration to mark the life of the late Richard A. "Radar" Polovich will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, April 20, 2008 in the American Legion Post Hall, 299 Huron Blvd., Marysville. Dick died in his home November 18, 2007 in Lake Worth, Florida, after a short illness. He had lived in Kimball Township until 1984, when he moved to Florida. Remembrances about Dick will be shared at 3:00 p.m. The Rev. Max. Amstutz, Port Huron Hospital chaplain, will officiate. Friends are welcome to send their remembrances to ralphpolovich@
sbcglobal.net. Memorials may be made to the Marysville High School Sports Booster Club, in care of Marysville High School, 1325 Michigan Avenue, Marysville, MI 48040. An annual trophy has been established in Dick's memory. Recipients will be selected from Marysville High School track teams. Cremation has taken place. Dick's ashes will be buried at his mother's gravesite in Ruby Cemetery. Dick was the son of the late Elizabeth and Steve Polovich. He was a graduate of Marysville High School and attended Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti. While in high school, he played basketball and was on the track team. He held the school record for the half-mile run. He joined the U.S. Navy in the early 1960s and served four years as a SONAR operator. After his Navy service, Dick worked at Southeastern Michigan Gas Company and Diamond Crystal Salt Company. He also was a sports department stringer for the Times Herald. When he moved to Florida, he was a supervisor for a construction company. Dick loved sports. He was the assistant baseball coach at St. Clair County Community College for Dick Groch. He also coached a women's soft ball team (the Medics) and was a serious baseball card collector. He was a sports trivia buff, especially about University of Michigan football and hockey at all levels. He was a member of the All-Star selection committee for Silver Stick. Dick was a statistician for the original Port Huron Flags hockey team. He is survived by three brothers, Ralph W. Polovich of Port Huron, Donald G. Polovich of Rapid City, SD and Edwin G. (Kathy) Polovich of Marysville; two sisters, Shirley A. (Ron) Baisley of Bella Vista, CA and Phyllis I. (Gerry) Parker of Lakewood Ranch, FL; a stepbrother, David (Barb) Hanneke of Kimball; seven nieces and nephews; and seven great-nieces and nephews.
