Vera Schulze Obituary

Vera L. Schulze Brown City Vera L. Schulze age 80 of Brown City went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on November 3, 2011 after a long illness. Her family was at her side as she left this earth for the glories of heaven. Vera was born in Argyle Twp. on December 17, 1930, the daughter of the late Frank and Irene Pringle. As a pre-teen and teenager she was very active in 4-H, beginning with gardening and advancing to baking, canning and sewing. Vera did elementary schooling at McBride Country School and graduated from Sandusky High School in 1949 and that fall attended a short course at MSU. She also taught 4-H 5th and 6th grade girls sewing in her home. She met and became engaged to her husband to be Walter and had wedding plans for marriage in the summer of 1951. However, Walter was called into the U.S. Army in 1951, so the wedding was postponed for 2 years and Vera faithfully awaited his return. The couple was married on June 23, 1953 in the Sandusky Methodist Church. Vera was always active in her church and with the local UMW and served several years as an officer in the Port Huron District and for many years taught children and youth Sunday School. In the 50's and 60's she was also active in the Maple Valley Extension Club. Vera was a farm wife and at the age of 40 decided she would like to go into nursing. She took evening class for a year at Brown City High School and then attended St. Clair County Community College and graduated in June 1973 with an associate degree as an R.N. Vera worked a year at Sandusky Hospital and transferred to Marlette Community Hospital until her retirement in 1990. Vera and her husband traveled extensively, twice to Europe, Israel, Alaska, Hawaii, Nova Scotia and beyond and many short trips. Vera is survived by her husband of 58 years Walter, one son Paul (Brenda) Schulze, two daughters Lorraine (Dan) Puuri and Crystal (Rick) Reed, 9 grandchildren Amber, Andrea, Angela, Emily, Elizabeth, Joshua, Rachel, Joe (Airelle), Jason (Kim) and two brothers Dale (Betty)Pringle, Kenneth (Geraldine) Pringle along with several nieces and nephews. A gathering for family and friends will be Sunday from 2 - 8 p.m. at Carman Funeral Home in Brown City. Funeral services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Brown City United Methodist Church with Rev. Maureen Baker officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the BCUM Church Building Fund or Great Lakes Hospice.
