Arlene Jackson Obituary

MEBANE - Ms. Arlene Jackson, 91, of 709 W. McKinley St., died Oct. 2, 2012 at ARMC. She was the wife of the late Mr. Arthur Jackson and daughter of Mr. Frank Johnson and Mrs. Lizzie Green Johnson, both deceased.
She was a dietician in the Alamance County Food Service. She was a member of Johnson Chapel AME Church where she served as deaconess, president of the Usher Board, treasurer of the Building Fund and organized the Mebane Community Prayer Board. She loved flowers, cooking, caring for her family and helped raised her siblings.
Survivors include six brothers, Bishop Johnson (Katie), Robert Johnson (Sallie) both of Mt. Vernon, N.Y., Jessie Johnson (Deborah) of Burlington, James Johnson of Durham, Joe Johnson of Wake Forest and Harvey Johnson of Chapel Hill; seven sisters, Vanilla King of Durham, Doretha Land (August, Sr.) of Mebane, Rosa Lee Johnson and Bernice Johnson, both of Mt. Vernon, N.Y., Maggie Robinson of White Plain, N.Y., Dorothy Mae Hunt and Louise Nelson (Ronnie) both of Wake Forest; one grandson, Bernard Mangum of Virginia; three great grandchildren; one son-in-law, Bendell Mangum; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Anne Mangum Jackson and five brothers, George Johnson, Fred Johnson, Marvin Johnson, Bernard Johnson and Floyd Johnson.
Public viewing will be Friday, Oct. 5 from 1 to 8 p.m. in the Roy Blackwell Chapel of Blackwell Funeral Home in Burlington and at other times the family will receive friends at the residence.
The funeral will be Saturday, Oct. 6 at 2 p.m. at Johnson Chapel AME Church with the Rev. McDonald delivering the eulogy. Burial will be in White Cross AME Church cemetery in Efland.
Visitation will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 6 with the family arriving at 1:30 p.m.
Services are entrusted to Blackwell Funeral Home, Burlington.
