Gareth Currie Obituary
He was son of Marva Currie Matthews and the late Edward Nathaniel Matthews, and husband of Gilda Ann Liggins "Chicken" Currie.
He is survived by one daughter, Erika Natisse Currie; one granddaughter, Shania Lynchelle Weddington, both of Chattanooga TN; two brothers, Gregory Lamont Currie of Greensboro, NC, and Boris Darnell Matthews of Burlington, NC; four sisters, Shernetta Marie Matthews and Fay Matthews both of Burlington, NC; and Denise Currie Galbreath, and Kay Matthews Bigelow both of Charlotte, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
A public viewing will be held on Friday, August 7, 2015, from 1-8 p.m. in the Roy Blackwell Chapel of Blackwell Funeral Home.
The funeral is Saturday, August 8, 2015, at 1 p.m. in the Roy Blackwell Chapel. The family will receive guests from noon to 1 p.m. Burial will be in North Lawn Cemetery.

May God bless the Currie-Matthews family and loved ones during this time. Our families have known one another for as long as i can remember. Our grandparents (the Alston's Honey and Juanita) lived in middle of the Bush and Currie-Matthews families in "Mar-town". will never forget the Kwik-Pik store and those summertime cookouts, we had a ball. It is hard to write this.
To Gilda (Chicken) Currie and Matthew Family, God Bless you at this time and always. Lean and depend on Him to carry you through. One was like a lil brother to me and a brother to my siblings. We always greeted each other as Big Bro, Lil Bro. I love this family and we are all stronger for it. All I can say is We have to Trust God in times like this..
