L.M. “Dicky” Wilburn Jr. Obituary

BURLINGTON - L.M. "Dicky" Wilburn Jr., 61, of Huffines Dr. passed away Friday Aug. 7, 2009 following several years of failing health. He was the husband of Vickie Sumner Wilburn and was born Jan. 8, 1948 in Alamance County to the late Lamberth M. Wilburn, Sr. and Mae Belle Rudd Wilburn who survives.

Dicky was well known for his football abilities including being named to the All-State Football Team while at Williams High School. As a four year scholarship player and starter at Elon College, he also earned North Carolina's All State Honors on the collegiate level. Dicky was a past member of the Central Piedmont Corvette Club and had a passion for cars especially classics from restoring to owning and collecting cars. He was a true craftsman in his work as the owner and operator of Wilburn Enterprises.

Survivors include his wife, of the home; mother, of Burlington; a daughter, Kelli Bowman of Oak Ridge; a brother, Sonny (Virginia) Wilburn of Elon; sisters, Nancy (Jim) Reeves of Sneads Ferry, Dottie Wilburn of Elon, Betty (Jerry) Faulkner of Mooresville; and three grandsons. He was preceded in death by his father.

The memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday at the Lowe Funeral Home Chapel.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Monday at Lowe Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc. and at other times at the home of his brother, 3541 Stoney Creek Church Road, Elon.

Vickie, it has been a very long time since I saw you or Dicky. He was a wonderful, fun loving guy who never met a stranger. I am so sorry for your loss. I am so sorry for your loss! he was so nice and always had me laughing everytime i saw or talked to him he was truely a great man i will always remember how he worked so hard to fix my jeep wrangler when i was 16 he had it for the whole summer and fixed it so i could get it back the night before school started . i am really sorry thinking and praying for all of you !
