Lois Cain Obituary

GRAHAM - After a loving life of 85 years, that included marriage to the man of her dreams and building a life with him for close to 60 years while bearing him five beautiful children and maintaining her cherished homes, Lois passed away, after a brief illness, on Sept. 25, 2014, at the Hospice Home in Burlington, N.C.
Born in 1929 in Rockford, Ill. to Swedish immigrant parents, both deceased, Axel Emil Pearson and Theresia Dahlstrom Pearson, Lois spent her formative years in Rockford and then attended both Augustana College and MacMurray College before she married John "Jack" Edward Cain in 1948.
Lois and Jack built a life together that began in Peoria, Ill. shortly after World War II. Babies quickly filled their home while Jack pursued his career with Illinois Bell Telephone Company. Lois was always proud of her immaculate house and happy children. She dedicated herself to her children's educations and was an active member of PTAs and the Cub Scouts as the family grew. She was always known for her cooking skills, which included baking, candy making, and many family specialties. She was also accomplished in quilting, embroidery arts and fashion sewing.
After the couple moved to Graham in 1981, Lois was able to devote time to her early passion, painting. She was an accomplished water colorist who had numerous commissioned works. She continued to enjoy this creative endeavor for decades and spent many happy years working with the Burlington Artist League. Lois was immensely talented and never hesitated to volunteer her time and effort. She served as the BAL gallery manager for 10 plus years and, in 2000, she was inducted as a lifetime member.
Lois served as a gracious example of how to find the best in everyone, always valuing the contributions of all.
She is survived by her daughter, Stacey Traister of Graham, N.C.; and granddaughter, Dylan Traister of Asheville, N.C.; daughter, Allison L. Cain of Durham, N.C.; son, Michael E. Cain of Columbus, Ohio; son, Jonathon B. Cain (Cynthia) of Fort Thomas, Ky.; grandson, Jason Cain and his two sons of Naperville, Ill.; and beloved pets, Stanley, Francis, Basil and Emmy Lou. She is also survived by Jane Becker (Charlie) of Springfield, Ill. and Barb Dedman of Kalispell, Mont., the sisters of her late husband, Jack.
The family of Lois would like to express their gratitude to her youngest daughter, Stacey Traister, for the years of gentle care which allowed Lois to enjoy her home, garden, pets, family and the Weather Channel until shortly before she passed.
Lois was predeceased by her parents; husband; brother, Claire Pearson of Rockford, Ill.; sister, Phyllis Roth of Naples, Fla.; and son, Patrick Cain of Rossville, Ill.
The family will receive friends for visitation from 2 to 3 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2014, at McClure Funeral Service, 1030 S. Main St. Graham, 27253. Funeral services will follow the visitation. Burial will follow in Graham Memorial Park.

While art show chairman for the CCB Holiday Art Show I got to know Lois as a participating artist. Her work was beautiful and she was so cordial and genuine with everyone she met. I consider myself fortunate to have two of her art pieces. My thoughts and prayers are with her family at this time. I know she will be missed. Brenda Ray

We are blessed that Lois was our neighbor for 18 years. Our family grew up next door and benefitted from her many kindnesses. She shared so much with us over the years; her time, sage advice, "extra" plants, lots of conversations, yummy homemade delights, backyard Easter egg hunts, lots of good times with pets, and many holiday joys. Lois was a warm, generous, and talented lady. Over all these years we've felt comfortable, safe, and cared for having The Cain's next door. She will always be a happy part of our family's memories. Stacey, Allison, Dylan, and all Lois' family members are in our hearts and prayers. We will miss her.

We were very blessed to have Lois as a neighbor for 18years. Our family has grown up next door, and benefitted from her many kindnesses. Over the years she shared much with us; her "extra" plants, homemade delights, sage advice, many conversations, lots of fun with pets, combined family Easter egg hunts, and many holiday joys. She will always be a big part of our family's best memories. She was a wonderful, generous, kind, and talented lady. Always felt safe and cared for having her right next door. We will miss her. Our hearts and prayers are with you all.
