Margie Ward Obituary

Margie Marie Daniels Ward, age 79, of Lexington went to be with her Lord, on Monday, August 27, 2019 at the Hinkle Hospice House of Davidson County after several years of declining health.

A funeral service and burial will be held at 3 p.m. at Lea Bethel Baptist Church in Prospect Hill on Thursday, September 6, 2018. Visitation will begin one hour before.

Friends who cannot make it to Prospect Hill for the burial can come to the Davidson Funeral Home in Lexington, NC from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Wednesday, September 5, 2018.

Mrs. Ward was born in Caswell Country on August 10, 1939 to Dury Henry Daniels and Molly Mae Gregory Daniels.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Mildred Daniels Poole, Betty Lou Blaylock, and one brother George Carlton Daniels.

She is survived by one sister, Addie Daniels Cook, her husband of 56 years, Ralph Aaron Ward, her daughter, Maria Ward Ashbaugh, son-in-law, Brad Ashbaugh, and grandson Kalani Ashbaugh.

Margie grew up in Prospect Hill near present day Lake Roxboro. She graduated from Prospect Hill High School and attended business school before working at an insurance company in Durham. In 1962 she married Ralph A. Ward, the agriculture teacher at the high school. Immediately after the wedding, they left for Purdue University in Indiana.

Upon returning to Caswell County, she supported her husband's work with the school system at the central office for 11 years. In 1974 the family moved to Southport, N.C., and in later years, moved to Lexington, N.C. While at the coast, she worked for over 20 years at Belk Beery department store in Wilmington. During her life, Margie used her many artistic talents to brighten those around her. She was active with her church, and with different clubs and organizations.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Hospice of Davidson County at 200 Hospice Way, Lexington NC 27292 or to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America at 322 Eight Ave, 7thFloor, New York, NY 10001.

Ralph, it's been a long time since you and Margie left Southport. I read about Margie's passing in the State Port Pilot. You and your family and friends are in my thoughts and prayers.
