Barbara Matheson

On Wednesday, Nov. 19,
2025, the Lord called Bar-
bara Lassiter Matheson to
be with Him. Mrs. Mathe-
son, born Jan. 15, 1935,
passed away peacefully at
the family home.
Mrs. Matheson was
born in Raleigh, N.C., the
daughter of Bob and Hilda
Lassiter. She was a gradu-
ate of Cary High School.
She married Lyman Perry
Matheson on Nov. 5, 1955,
and moved to Toccoa, Ga.
She cherished the 70 years
she spent in the town she
loved.
Mrs. Matheson was a
longtime member of and
served in numerous lead-
ership roles in the Toccoa
Presbyterian Church, the
Presbyterian Women of
the Church, and the Toc-
coa Cotillion Club. She
served the community for
many years in the Toccoa
Junior and Women's Clubs
and the Toccoa Garden
Club.
Mrs. Matheson's special
joy was hosting family and
friends. She was known
for her elegant events,
making each occasion ex-
traordinary and every
plate pretty. When she was
not caring for the family
home or organizing chil-
dren's or civic activities,
she loved playing bridge
with her many life-long
friends, attending Georgia
football games with Perry,
or spending time with
family and friends at their
home on Lake Hartwell or
their condominium at
Wild Dunes in Isle of
Palms, S.C.
Mrs. Matheson was the
beloved wife of Perry
Matheson; devoted mother
of Courtney M. Williams
(husband, Bill), Leigh M.
Andrews (husband, Mike),
and Douglas Perry Mathe-
son (wife, Astrid aka AK);
cherished MeMother of
Fletcher Williams, Olivia
Williams, Katherine An-
drews Hagen (husband,
Jack), Caroline Andrews,
and Andrew D. Matheson;
and loving sister-in-law of
Jan Matheson Rowell. She
is survived by many other
loving family members.
She was preceded in
death by her husband of 68
years, Lyman Perry Math-
eson, her parents, and her
siblings: Graham Howard
Lassiter, Edwin Philip
Lassiter, and James Larry
Lassiter.
The family would like
to give special thanks to
Anita Harrison for being
such a loving caregiver
and friend and Ron and
Lynne Matheson for being
doting, watchful neigh-
bors. Their generosity al-
lowed Mrs. Matheson to
enjoy living in the home
she loved.
A service of Christian
burial was celebrated Nov.
24, 2025, at 2 p.m. in the
Hillcrest Chapel of Acree-
Davis Funeral Home with
the Rev. Phil Hargrove of-
ficiating. The following
gentlemen served as pall-
bearers; Fletcher
Williams, Andrew Mathe-
son, Jack Hagen, Mark
Ware, Clay Ware and
Mark Harrison.
The family received
friends at Acree-Davis Fu-
neral Home on Monday,
Nov. 24, 2025, from 12 p.m.
until the service time at 2
