MOUNTAIN CITY - Mae Jones Johnson, 92, of Mountain City, Tennessee, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on September 24, 2025. She was surrounded by her loving family at the time of her passing. She was born on November, 18, 1932 in Creston, North Carolina to the late Ralston Levi Jones and Verda Allen Jones. She lived a life marked by faith, love, and devotion to her family and community. Just before her 18th birthday, she boarded a bus to Michigan where she worked and sent her earnings back home to her family. Mae was an outstanding Christian woman who loved the Lord. She was a member of Walnut Grove Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school, Bible school and was song leader for decades until her health caused her to step down. Mae especially enjoyed gardening, working with flowers and cooking. She will be remembered for her amazing food, loving smile and her ability to keep her family in line. Mae worked at Levi Strauss for years until she retired to take care of her ailing husband until his death.

Mae is survived by her children, Keith (Debra) Johnson of Mtn. City, TN, Steve (Cathy) Johnson of Creston, NC, Gary Johnson of Mtn. City, TN and Jane Smith (Jeff Clark) of Jonas Ridge, NC. Grandchildren Melissa (Dave) Newstat of Medford Lakes, New Jersey, Jason Johnson of Mtn. City, TN, Michael Paul (Audrey) Johnson of Fayetteville, NC, Mandi (Justin) Farley of Hope Mills, NC, Scotty Johnson of Mtn. City, TN, Greg Johnson of Mtn. City, TN, Jennifer Johnson of Mtn. City, TN, Kendra (Jeff) Norman of Mtn. City, TN, Gary (Katie) Johnson of Mtn. City, TN and Jacob (Chloe) Smith of Mtn. City, TN. Step-Grandchildren Seth Whisenant, Brandy Keller, Crystal Mahala and Leeanne Mahala. Brother, Johnny (Maggie) Jones of Mtn. City, TN, Sisters, Arzella Roush of Mtn. City, TN, Kathleen Roush (Reggie Key) of Creston, NC, Barbara (Rodney) Roush of Creston, NC and Bonnie Lewis (Jack Price) of Mtn. City, TN. Sister-in-laws Norma Jones and Carnie Duffield. She is also survived by 19 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren and many nephews, nieces and cousins. Special cousin Mary Lee Maloney. Special friends Mary Dunn, Donna Monforty, Grace Osborne and Susie Wilson.

Mae is preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Cecil Johnson, her parents Ralston and Verda Allen Jones, grandson Johnny Johnson, brothers JR Jones, JD Jones, Farris Jones, sisters Mary Bell Blevins and Patsy Lewis, nephew Tommy Blevins and niece Avis Price.

A graveside service will be held, Monday, September 29th at 11:00 am at Lipford-Johnson Cemetery with David Bentley, Russ Poteet and Tommy Wurth officiating.

Pallbearers are Michael Paul Johnson, Justin Farley, Seth Whisenant, Jeff Clark, Greg Johnson and Robbie Wurth.

Honorary Pallbearers are Jacob Smith, Gary E. Johnson, Jim Fink, Jeff Norman, Luke Poteet, Brandon Dunn, Silas Stout, Riley Speis, Jerry Lipford, Josh Poteet, and Brayden Speis.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be sent to Saint Jude's.
