Billy Merchant was an exceptional man. In the classroom he touched so many lives with his gentle humor, sweet smile and genuine caring for all his students. The world is a much better place for his having been here and I'm sure God welcomed him home saying, "Well done, my good and faithful servant." God bless you all.

I remember Mr. Merchant from when he taught at Pickering. I did not have him as a teacher but I did have Mrs. Merchant in the 6th grade. He would come to the room and talk to all of us and before long he had everybody laughing about something. I also had the pleasure of seeing his animal farm and we also bought some rabbits from him which we really enjoyed. I rode with Mr. and Mrs. Merchant to school and back to Anacoco to my Grandparents for my Parents were in Now Orleans with my sister. Many great memories. My thoughts and Prayers are with ya'll as you go through you rough times. May God bless

Where to start with Mr. Merchant, for me was my 1st year at Pickering. Mr. Merchant was my 6th grade teacher in 1965. He had the best personality and a heart of gold. He was always there to help in and out of the class room. I was fortunate to meet Mr. Merchant, I had the opportunity to stay with him and Mrs. Merchant some weekends and got to help with his animals… Great memories!!! With his ongoing smile and blushing face when laughing will always be etched in my mind. Sorry for your loss, but thank God for Billy Merchant!!!

Mr. Merchant was a quiet and kind man who will be missed greatly. He was a great teacher to many children from Anacoco. I would visit with him when we happened to be at the post office at the same time and he always asked about my children.
