A recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held at 6:30 pm Sunday in the funeral home.

Mrs. Pontif, 70, of Lecompte passed away on Friday, June 22, 2012, at her home after a nine-month battle with pancreatic cancer.

Mrs. Pontif retired in May 2000. She received her B.S. degree in Elementary Education from Louisiana State University in 1964. She taught for over 26 years in Lake Charles and Alexandria. She spent the majority of her career at St. Frances Cabrini School as a kindergarten and pre-kindergarten teacher where she touched a countless number of children's lives. Mrs. Pontif was an excellent educator and beloved by students long after they left her classroom. Faye was incredibly hard working and endlessly dedicated to both her family and profession. She can best be remembered for her unparalleled selflessness and compassion.

She is preceded in death by her parents, John and Lena Rini, and her beloved husband of 45 years, John Earl Pontif.

She is survived by her twin daughters, Sheryl Pope (Darryl) of Kingwood, Texas, and Lisa Hooter of Baton Rouge; two sons, Michael John Pontif (Erin) of Baton Rouge; and Mark Anthony Pontif (Nadia) of Newport, Rhode Island; six grandchildren, Kevin and Nicholas Hooter; Chase and Ashton Pope; John Michael Pontif; and Alicia Juliette Pontif; one brother, Sam Rini (Shirley), three sisters, Marie Carcara, Johnnie Hart (Tim), Brenda Daenen (Alan) and many nephews and nieces. Faye was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother.

Faye was an extremely patient and caring spirit who always helped those in need. She dedicated her life to those who needed her most and gave freely of her time and energy to make this world a better place. She most enjoyed spending time with her family, reading books and admiring the many rose gardens her husband planted for her. She will be dearly missed by family and friends.

Pallbearers will be her grandchildren Kevin and Nicholas Hooter, Chase Pope, and her nephews John L., Robert and Paul Rini. Honorary pallbearers will be her grandson John Michael Pontif and nephew Stephen Hart.

Memorial gifts may be sent to St. Martin Catholic Church, P.O. Box 459, Lecompte, LA 71346-0459.
